When We Were Us

by Megan   Jan 15, 2013

Sledding, slipnslides, bike rides, summer air.
Sleepovers, dance parties, not everyone had to be there.
School was tough, but we knew we had each other there,
But that was when
The glass was clear.

Seems like our lives will never be quite the same.
We treat each other like it's some kind of game.
Like we never laughed and loved the way that best friends do,
But I refuse
To blame it all on you.

(Chorus)
All this time I thought we'd stay
Six best friends, there'd be no way
To separate our cause.
Year's almost up.
Our time is short.
Please press pause.

Remember all the moments underneath the stars?
Laughing, hugging, knowing everything was ours?
We said someday we'd grow up and live our lives, not me, but us.
Now here we are.
Promises a bust.

(Chorus)

There's still time to reconcile
What once was, but
Have we all grown too far apart,
And is it because
We've realized we are all just kids
Going off so soon?

But I miss the plans you used to make.
All of the goodies that we baked.
Our constant bickering, your attitude, and your mischievous ways.
All that's left
Is an apology.

(Chorus)

Year's almost up.
Our time is short.
Hope hope's not lost.
