Loneliness

by lillie   Jan 19, 2013

There he was gliding his way out into the open with a feeling so sad.

Had he no home? He travelled alone, he was a gentle little lad.

For when winter came, he disappeared for a season.
He left without a note, he really had no reason.

He was short, grey, but he carried a big shield.
When he wasn't working, it was his home in the
grass field.

Night and day, day and night, he wore his shield.
Never spoke of a love, his heart was sealed.

Every spring I see him gliding, never exchanging a single word.
But he is so silent, he is barely to be heard.

Oh he is the sweetest little guy I have ever known.
One season he's a baby, the next he has really grown.

He walks lonely still, so slowly, so sad.
He has a shell for a home, the best he's ever had.

He never really cared what people said, for he had no name.
He never came out in the winter, the snow was to blame.

Everywhere he goes, this little guy leaves a little trail.
I guess that is why, he is a beautiful little snail
