My Lily

by Glenn G   Jan 21, 2013

In the twilight years of my life
My season of fall
Mother Nature reversed its order
Gave me but a minute to know its awe
At a time when my days were empty and nights so cold
Mother Nature grew a flower large and bold
A white Lily of great beauty to both vision and smell
One I wanted to clip and place in my lapel
A flower so rare and in a time it doesn't belong
Petals so large and a stem so strong
Each morning it awakens with the rise of the sun
This rare Lily, Lily but one
When my season is over and mother nature turns back around
I will lie in my grave with thoughts of the Lily I'd found
After I'm gone the Lily will brighten each day
Of those people who find their way
To that field where this Lily grows all alone
And each will want to take my Lily home
This Lily opens every morning and gathers the dew
It brightened my life and it will do the same for you
One can not pass this Lily and leave without a smile
My Lily, my Lily I had for awhile
