A Hundred Poems

by Liz   Jan 30, 2013

I could compose a hundred songs,
sing devotion in each verse.
Make promises in every lyric,
to love you even at your worse.

I could write a hundred sonnets,
vow love in metaphoric rhymes.
Give you a piece of my heart,
in between every metric line.

I could narrate a hundred stories,
with endings ever so cliche.
You and I would be the characters,
why have it any other way?

I could strum a hundred guitars,
serenade our favorite song.
With a perfect, melodic tune,
"love lifts us up where we belong".*

I could write a hundred poems,
confess what in my heart is true.
Yet with all the words in history,
I can't express my love for you.

2007.

This is truly stunning and sweet. There are no words where true love is concerned.

The song credit made me giggle. The poem is adorable! The last line is supposed to be striking -- which it is, as the last sentence is very meaningful and clever-- but I was at first confused when I read "I can't express my love for you"... I know it was supposed to tie in with the line preceding it, but it just sounds weird. My only suggestion, and a mere suggestion at that because the poem is still beautiful, is to change it to "they can't express my love for you" so that the reader knows for sure you're speaking about the words.

    Wonderful write. Very clever!

This is quite different from the other poems I've read from you. Perhaps, because you didn't use any metaphors which I've become accustomed too. This one was just straight to the point and...sometimes, when we write about love, there is no need to hide our feeling....another enjoyable read.

This is beautiful huni. I love it!! I love that song also. You took a lovely piece and made it into a masterpiece! Only you could do that. You are my most favourite author of poetry. I so look forward to your posts. Every piece of art by you is phenomenal. Words just can't express :-)
