Love Hurts

L Hurts
by: Rania Moallem

It hurts; hurts like barbed thorns
between my eyes and your smile,
those prolonged longings of mine
that pierce nothing but the hopes clinging
to my chest, short on reaching you.

Not only do they speak of sharpness and of pain
but of poison and of death,
of pitch black coffee in the mouth
of insomniacs,
..of rebirth in eyes that shine like diamond buckles.

It's with you that stone once tasted like hard bread
and yet with you that bread crumbles felt like marbles
like sad, like blue,
like bitter sweet,
like tasteless water
like loving you
like not loving you.

Love hurts and because it hurts
I've closed both of my eyes,
and forgot my third one,
for all those thorns to punctuate
their obscurity, deep within,
and right through the distance between
my chest, and your deceptive presence.

Nana - I'm speechless! I absolutely loved this piece from start to finish. I love the topic (no surprise here) but I love writing about this part of love.. because it's so complex and not just rainbows and smile all the time. I love how you expressed the complexity and difficulty people face when they're hurt by someone they love.

This is a touching poem that really affected me. Well done sweetie!

OMG Nana, How I have missed these writes from you, soo deep and thought provoking, I feel the anger in the words and that eagerness to get them out before they consume you.

It really tore at me, that tone. I don't know what else to say, Love hurts, and sometimes it feels like the end of the world when something isn't right.

Really powerful stuff here, just blew me away.
