Sanctuary

by Poet on the Piano   May 25, 2013

I never believed her-
he goes to sleep because he's
depressed about your fights?

He's finally seen it,
she said,
the depth of this love-
an inflammation.

If this is what will be the result,
why do you even try again?

My bones throb, the anguish
like bacteria eating my flesh.

Isn't it just building thick skin,
throwing the dirt in a hiding place,
and starting over until you
fall?
