A Suicide Note never expires

There once was a boy, who was in love,
Only seventeen at the time, but age was nothing but a number,
he feel in love with a girl named Dido from school who took his breath away,
shot in the back by Cupid's arrow,

The rest was history, he found his missing rib,
happiness would never elude him again, so he thought,
they would sneak in the bathrooms and make-out like it was their job to do so,
his face always lite up like Christmas morning when you see him walking down the halls,

One night he invited her over for dinner to finally meet his mother,
a big step in a fresh relationship, but they didn't care,
"My mother is going to love you baby. You are smart, funny, and gorgeous like a full moon on a quiet summer night. You are going to be taken in like you're one of her own", he says,
With a smile on her face bigger than the Dipper, her heart races in anticipation,

Dinner was served at 7 o'clock that night,
baked chicken, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, and lets not forget the pound cake that his mother bought from Jewel Osco, but she told everyone she made it from scratch,
Silence surrounded the dinner table,
only hearing the scrapping sounds from forks and spoons, mixed with intense chewing from his younger brother,

"So mom I just wanted to say that I am deeply in love with Dido. She is the ripple to my oceans wave, and the Willows in my tree. I really just wanted for you to see who it is that has been making me so happy",

Dropping her fork and throwing her napkin at the half-eaten baked chicken, his mother looks at him with a disgusted stare,
"What do you know of love boy? You are only seventeen years old. You should be worrying about school and getting into a good college before you worry about love. You're just like your father. Going head over heels for the first white girl you see, leaving us all behind. Do your parents know you are dating a black boy Dido? Probably not. As long he draws breath under my roof, he will never date a white woman, no matter what age",
Crickets where playing, "The Lark Ascending" by Ralph Vaughan-Williams after that speech, as if signaled by his mother,
shocked and upset Dido ran out his house faster than a speeding bullet,

Weeks pass by like seconds for him, not having heard or seen his beloved Dido since the dinner,
she wasn't at school and didn't answer his phone calls,
the love of his life simply disappeared without a trace, leaving him broken and alone,
he would spend his after school time searching for her like a detective trying to find Carmen Sandiego,

Until one morning he awakens to a knock at his door,
rushing downstairs as if to see Santa Claus putting presents under the tree, he can only hope it's the present he has been wanting for weeks,
but the present he received came with no receipt,
just left him the worst taste in his mouth imaginable,

Waiting at his door was his lost love covered in tears and scars,
immediately embracing her like a child who hugs their father when he comes back from war,
"Where were you? I was worried sick. Don't ever do that again okay, please don't you ever leave me", he cried,
Her blank stare turned into a half grin,

"Now I can die happy" she says whispering in his ear while still in his embrace,
Pulling her away, he starts to see the cuts all over her arms and an old wound on her wrists,
Almost in complete disbelief he brings her inside his home,
"I'll get some of my clothes and run some bath water for you okay babe. You stink", he says with a smile on his face,

Running back to where he left her, with boxer-briefs, black sweatpants, and a black Avengers shirt that he bought from Wal-mart after he saw the first movie, he couldn't find her,
yelling at the top of his lungs he hears no response,
He looks everywhere in the house, but still he can't find her,
until he looks in the garage,

There she was, hanging from a rope that was originally used to hold his mothers trunk together when she got into a car accident years ago,
horrified he tried desperately to get her down, but to no avail he couldn't,
Tears running down his face, all he could do was take a piece of paper that was sticking out of her pocket,
He hadn't noticed it before until right now,

"My name is Dido Lucretia Iris. I am fifteen years old and I have been through a lot in such a short time. Love has escaped me for the last time, and I'm tired of trying. I am never good enough for anyone, and always find myself cutting over a lost love. Today, I will take a final stand and end my suffering. I loved him dear and he loved me, but his family fought against us. Cursing me, saying I would never amount to anything but poor white trash like my mother and condemning my love Chris for fighting against them and trying to make him to take their side. I'm sorry I wasn't stronger and fought as hard as you did. Everyday you were in the trenches for me, taking fire and giving it right back, but no more. No more pain and suffering for you my love. I want you to live out the rest of your days in peace without this burden I unwillingly placed on you. I love you and will forever be in your heart and eyes. These are my final words signed in blood. When you dream I will be there. I will watch over you until your dying day. I'll watch over your kids and whomever you decide to marry. I love you Pac-man forever and always.

Hours go by while he sits Indian style underneath the feet of his love until police eventually come,
handing over the note he tells a police officer it was written almost three years ago before I even met her,
how could this happen to her? It's been such a long time, I don't understand,
"A suicide note never expires."
