Camping with Dragon (stringed tankas)

by Larry Chamberlin   Aug 28, 2013

Spring Break at the beach
me with my young pup, Dragon,
golden retriever,
a seven-month old fluff ball;
such a babe magnet is he!

Bikini clad girls
run their coconut oiled hands
roughly through his fur
fuss over his big brown eyes,
he laps it all up - like me.

Roaring surf frolics
ignoring the chilly air
and freezing water;
youths and pup worship the sun
their excitement keeps them warm.

I brought enough food
but beach bunnies can't resist
his pathetic gaze
yields aromatic burgers,
hands cup beer I slap away.

Boxes blast music
over diesel truck rumbles
screams along the line:
"Ooh, look at the cute doggie!"
his day: canine paradise.

When stars begin trails,
nymphs slip to nylon cocoons;
we trudge to our site
past shadows playing through tents
(advertise quieter games).

Sand, sun, tasty food
fawning, petting, baby talk
tan girls, icy waves,
warm sun: all are still with him,
yet watch him run in his dreams.
