E' Ti Amo

by Jenni Marie   Sep 2, 2013

{I had a hero, once. In fact, I had two.}

But then they split; never to reconcile again and from them I learnt betrayal mistrust and hate, instead of what they should have taught me. Then I had another hero; one I thought deserved the title. He let me down too, in the worst possible way. One of those ways that it becomes far too difficult to speak about and that you only see in nightmares.

And then; then I met you. And I never thought you
would become my hero. But you did, you did become my hero.

{Without even trying.}

Because quite honestly; you are amazing. I value, respect and admire you so much. You mean the world to me. And you may not realize this, but you are {always} the first person I go to, no matter the situation. You're the first person I share things with, whether good or bad. You're the only person besides myself I can trust absolutely.

You will never know what you mean to me. I may try to explain to you, I may give you reasons, I may try and explain to you why you mean what you do to me; but truthfully you will never understand. Because I don't understand it myself. You came into my life unexpectedly, and from there your importance grew and now I really don't know what I would do without you. I guess it comes down to few simple words.

{Ti amo.}

E Ti amo-Italian: And I love you.
Ti Amo-: I love you.

    Okay, so firstly I am a huge fan of Italy, the language and country, and just love Italian poems. I also think Ti Amo sounds so much better than I love you!

    As for the poem, I really like the story that builds up in the beginning, I imagine a small child who looks up to both parents as her heroes, people who will never let her down and can do no wrong. But then her world is shattered when they split up and she becomes confused about trust and family life. This happens so often and the child is left with lots of issues regarding trust, promises, self esteem etc. I also like how you put certain things in brackets, it just emphasises the importance of the phrase, or the point you are making. Like it is coming from even deeper inside of you than the other parts of the poem.

    I then like how you add on another let down, this could be from a partner, or perhaps a friend, or even another family member, step-parent etc. But they just add to that betrayal and your mistrust then grows.

    I really like how you finish the poem. The fact that you have given so much detail about being let down and feeling like you could never trust again, this just shows how special this person is that they gained your trust and in return, you gained theirs. This is beautiful and I imagine this person beginning to heal, beginning to move on from the past and the let downs that belong there, and she opens up to a new future with this person, her new hero.

    I adore this poem, I can tell it has came from inside and means a lot to you, I am sure it will connect with many people on here as it did me. I really connected most to the point that you can't explain how this came to be, or understand how deep the love is, all you do know is that suddenly it was there, and still is. Lovely :)

    Nice work. xx
