Sun Valley.

by Poet on the Piano   Jan 26, 2014

If you could write about me
in a few words, what would you
scrawl on the first page
of a fresh snowfall?

You reply,
painfully beautifully...

I stare at him for too long;
winter snarls anxiously
after hours of silence
where we wait on an
unshaven ice rink-
snowflakes are thrown
sharply at our irises,
like foam dice questioning
faith and fate,
solidifying to something
colder.

It's not that I intrigue him.
Maybe he called me those
two words because I carry
unneeded sorrow;
I could have chosen
to be helped, instead,
I chose to swim the channel
and relive memories.

He is slipping further away,
finding a way to freeze his flaws,
yet I cannot.
These skates are tightening
around my ankles-
I can't keep up and somehow
he has escaped me.
The sun has erased him.

I don't want to hear a
"welcome home"
until I deserve it.
Until I can beat this sin I'm
running from and figure out
on what ground I stand,
and what ground he

lives for.

-
Was looking up famous ice skating rinks and chose one, Sun Valley, as my title as my setting. Never been of course.

Prompts from Adreamer:
Foam dice, memories, winter, painfully beautiful, welcome home, and the first page.

I love how you used these prompts MaryAnne, you always write with such beauty and whatever the topic, or genre, I always feel like you put your entire being into your words.
This was sad, and the imagery was dark and reflecting but as always, there is just something incredibly you about this piece.

    Loved it :) x
