Twisted carnival

by Beauty In The Breaking   Feb 2, 2014

Shadows, twilight, darkness, gore,
moaning earth and howling winds,
darkness spreading ever closer
as she frantically tries to run,
this twisted carnival.

Black tear stains with silent cries,
cracks spider webbing ever more
with deepest pain the mortar,
she hears the warnings screaming
but she knows it's to late now.

Voices echo from the past,
insidiously alluring,
cover your ears, say they aren't real
but they'll follow you into madness,
there's no escaping this ride.

She sees her skin in tatters still
though no one else sees the scars,
she sees the names they've made her believe
like tattoos on her soul
as she closes her eyes in fear.

The night is bitter when it's warm outside
as the chill is coming from within,
all you do baby girl to fight it
is wrap close your blanket if misdeeds,
your insecurities will keep you warm.

Curl up, admit it, you know defeat,
cover your eyes and whisper "no more",
your heart is broken like silver mirrors
and your dreams, they are no more,
but the night has but begun.

Confusion, hurt, rejection, pain,
you're wandering with a broken compass,
your soul star has been snuffed out,
you tell yourself that you'll wake up
but you know it'll follow you home.

Grand designs of moving on,
thinking that you'd grown so strong,
who's laughing now, brave little girl,
as you realize that all is lost,
it's the midnight of your soul.

Face it girl, you failed again,
just like they all always said you would,
thinking that you would never be them,
never have to go home again
but your pride was too weak a tower.

All of a sudden her eyes open wide
and you realize the simple horrible truth,
she is you and it's just a mirror
and all you're seeing is just yourself,
your demons have won again.

Shadows, twilight, darkness, gore,
moaning earth and howling winds,
darkness spreading ever closer
as she frantically tries to run,
this twisted carnival.
