I like how you began it with a question, it brings the reader in right away wanting to know more, what it is you're talking about.

People often neglect the mundane;
their focus is usually toward the invincible.
Normalcy is boring,
yet heroism is the product of fame.

A true statement here, people do usually neglect the mundane.. The people who aren't famous.. It is quite sad because many non-famous people are just as much a hero as the famous people.

What really lies inside that spider suit?
A hero or a science geek?
People would tend to say the first
but what do they really know?
A fearless and strong figure,
could it really be Peter Parker?
The weak boy, the prime target
for being bullied,
that loner that nobody likes.
It could never be...

The depth of explaining how people don't see Spiderman for a tech savy science wiz is very vivid throughout this stanza. I like how you put it together, it's like the people only see Spiderman for a crime fighter, a superhero one to always save the day but what is really behind the mask? What is his personality like? It's two different people when you puts that mask on and has it off and you displayed it well here.

Is it a bird?
Is it a plane?
No it's super man!
But who is he really?
Do you actually know?
Would you even recognise him
if you bumped into him on the street?
Not even Lois Lane could.
All she saw was a tall,
lanky co-worker with big glasses,
when he really was the man
she spent all her time reporting and fantasising about.
It is really funny what a costume can do!

Ha so true, who knew glasses could hide someone's identity so well? I think when you wrote "when he really was the man" you can put "when he really was the man of steel" if you wanted anyway because that is his nickname.

Do people even remember
the person he originally was?
No one even wanted him;
he wasn't built for the army -
small, weak and defenceless.
People didn't notice him,
until a successful experiment
of enhancement made him who he is...
Would he ever have been noticed?
Would people actually see that physical
strength doesn't make a hero,
but the firm endurance inside,
that through resilience made him strive.

I think you're talking about Captain America here. I think this stanza is the strongest one yet. You explained in good detail how he is overlooked. He may have the heart but without the physique he has nothing, he is nothing to the army, and in fact even when he becomes Captain America he is still a model of America rather than a hero, up until he rises to resilience to become the man he always was inside himself that everyone overlooked. Well penned.

Why is it do you think,
that we only notice people in power?
Would you notice your neighbour in the mall?
Or your childhood friend who you lost contact with years ago?
If they were on TV you might,
fame always seems to be the element of recognition, switching on a light in our mind, not to neglect but to accept!

So very true. People don't give two cent about the non-famous people and most of them are the true heroes. You made it so vividly real in this poem, the examples you used of a hero and what society thinks a hero should be, but like you said a neighbour can be just as much of a hero as these superheroes if we would just look a little harder and all try to become our own superhero the world may be a better place.

I like how you ended it, it's like you are challenging us, the reader to look into the mirror to discover ourselves, to unmask ourselves and take off the suit (our outer layer) and become the men/women we're meant to become.

Very inspiring poem, very deep and very creative as always. You left me breathless with this piece. I swear you can choose any subject and topic and turn it into an insight and inspiring piece. That right there is God gifted talent, never stop writing.

Your writing seems to hold so much power and facts about the truth in the world! It just states a point so clearly, and seemingly so easily! it really is amazing!

this needs a bit of an edit....

It should either read,

"Society today only sees what IT chooses to see"

or "Society today only see what they choose to see"

But my preference is the first option out of these two.

This is the line that I think will stay with me for a while, It is so true, and so simple.

I really like when people use lists within a poem, as in they list some small things, quickly and abruptly, and this is one of those poems which really pulls this technique off.

People always fall for the superheroes and could care less about the person behind the mask/costume. I like the fact that you pointed out that this doesn't just happen in movies or cartoons, but in real life, as well.
