Dad's Surprise

by cassie hughes   Oct 11, 2014

Lets decorate the house and hold a party.
To celebrate Dad's birthday,
though he doesn't care at all.
He hates a fuss, so pretend we've forgotten.
Then when he's gone to work
put banners up on every wall.
From top to bottom of the stairs with relish,
some bunting we can string
his age writ large on every flag.
Then hang balloons up high from every ceiling,
add pictures from his youth
before his face began to sag!
I'll clean the barbie ready for the burgers
and slice the buns and cheese,
I'd better get some pickles too.
There's beer outside already in the cooler.
We better have some other
drinks, I'll leave that up to you.
So lets print out a load of invitations
and send them round the neighborhood,
to everyone we know.
He'll make a fuss tomorrow but why worry,
live for today, that's the idea,
enjoy your life before you have to go.
