Thank You, O Beloved Demons

O Demons that have since birth
dwelt in the pits of my stomach
and the walls of my veins,
poisoning my heartbeat
and added unnatural weight,
I thank you.

I thank you for showing me
that food when tasteless
keeps me from turning
into a paragon of gluttony,
and kills off unnecessary pleasure

O Devils that have since birth
resided in the darkest corners
of my tainted skull,
whispering distrust and malice,
and showing me the true virtue
behind fearing life itself,
I thank you.

I thank you for showing me
that after you guys made
my core rotten enough,
I had the opportunity to
turn it into a cocoon.

And from that cocoon came
my metamorphosis.

O Demons and Devils,
Fiends and Kings,
I thank you for giving birth
to the Goddess of Death
that resides in my creativity

And O Goddess of Death,
I swear that I will never
let the light reach past
my sunken eyes,
for I love you, my shadow.

O All of you Devils within me,
and also ye Demons and Fiends,
I thank you all sincerely
for staying here with me.

But the Goddess is enough now,
I don't need your chaotic schemes
to turn you into self-hatred
and that hatred into beauty,
because I'm tired of destroying good things.

Demons, Devils and Fiends -
Begone from my body,
be banished!

We've had a good run, all these years,
I won't let it all go to waste.

Even so, the Goddess is enough:
I don't need to hate myself
to create magic out of the misery
anymore.

So thank you, all of you,
now begone.

Thank you! It was very inspired by your "Suicide of Andras" in many ways, actually. When I was returning home from school right before I wrote it, I kept thinking of that poem of yours in particular.

Without darkness, there cannot be light after all. First poem since Veritas that I'm actually happy with.
