The Escapist

by Mahal Ko Kuya Ko   Apr 22, 2015

A one-man band
plants white Camellias
through his music
in every willowed road
he has come to know
to remind the world
that there is still
compassion that exists
in everyone's heart.

He is a poet
who believes in daydreams,
an average dreamer,
and a prince
to the Manila stars.

He believes in odes,
cooks sweet stories
with his 4-string guitar,
and immortalize love
with the words he sings.

He is a midnight firefly --
still shining even when
the sun of his life has set,
a sturdy Narra
that endures
the clandestine zephyrs
sent to bring him
to his wounded knees.

He is a hearthstone,
a heartwarming country song,
an operetta
but more of a melodrama.

He is a rhapsody
forged by a forgotten blacksmith.

But before all of these,
he is my brother...

the most important person
in my life.

This is so very touching and all it takes is this one special person who do believe in you and make your dreams come true. I see the admiration and love you do have for this person and he is your brother on top of everything. Wow we need more of these amazing role models who can and will change our lives. Absolutely beautiful. 5/5

OMFG Dashiel, nominated. I can see this winning the weekly. This has such a person touch to it. Okay I am going to gush over this poem. The imagery and personal touch are what make this poem great, the flow of emotion ties in so well with the message you wanted to say. It is clear from the start of the poem that this person is a person that you care about deeply and love. Okay I love the title before I read the poem and once you do read the poem it is clear. This poem as many talents and has so much experience in their life, but the title could also hold a lot of sadness too, what are they escape from? but you know by reading the poem it seems like it could be a good thing. Oh that ending made my heart melt as well. It is so lovely that you have a role model in your life and a muse to write about, as the reader I can tell that you look up to them and they help you become the poet you are today. wonderful!! <3 5/5
