Torment

by ephemera   Aug 24, 2015

I've got a cheating conscience
Every age of myself is alive within me
As an entity that feels too much
And wars with the present

Oh, but to unleash the torment of my heart
And let the gods decide in some amusing game
That would be fair and my heart would be at ease
Knowing I was not responsible for any hurt

But that is not to be
Though each is a victor in my heart
That cradles me as I drift helplessly
Beneath the waves of wretched deep.
