Strength of my Spirit (Chained Double Tetractys)

by Larry Chamberlin   Jan 20, 2016

Blind
I was
before you
without concept
without knowing the world could be so deep
as to absorb sound in distance untold
and now I see
you were there
always
mute:
"shh"
silence
reflects back
all that you give
so it is easy to take that first step
seeing glory, singing praise, all for you
who never failed
to be there
for me,
mom.

The Tetractys consists of at least 5 lines of 1, 2, 3, 4, 10 syllables (total of 20). Tetractys can be written with more than one verse, but must follow suit with an inverted syllable count. Tetractys can also be reversed and written 10, 4, 3, 2, 1.

Double Tetractys: 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 10, 4, 3, 2, 1

Inspired by Michael (Mr Darcy) and Andrea (Maple Tree)

Larry, this really is a lovely tribute and beautifully written. I read both Michael's and Andrea's pieces and so when I saw this one's title, I thought there must be a Double Tetractys epidemic sweeping the site! (it sounds like something ghastly, doesn't it?) But when they are written as well as you guys have penned them, long may the epidemic continue!

All the best, Larry and I hope you are well,
    Ben

I too read Michael and Andrea's pieces and caught the fever.
      Thanks, Ben.

Larry love the form. You did a wonderful job on it. The tribute to your mom makes the entire piece.
    Take care
    Cindy
