A Lost Memphis Soul...

'Do you remember...

the 21st of September'

Clouds separated the embers & a developing grey.

The air thickened &

EARTH

Do you remember...

:

Was it the popping of stars across to Mars,
or the soulful singing that 'stole the night away'?
:
:
Ah, yes...

The landscape was lit once more with:

Light & with love.
:
:
Stars blazed, 'chasing the clouds away';
even these months on, my eyes glaze
at the sketched romantic ways of...
:
Green love breaking through a forsaking soil

:

...do you remember?
:
The song sprouting a swaying September
by the light of the night come day;
the soulful, merciful & sweet, sweet:

WIND

found the sin of angels upon their
drip, drip

________wings, their swaying hips
& airborne lips kissing the musical drama
that kept a tempo like a heartbeat,
a rich, dark harmony...
:
a throbbing pulse that built its pace;
its smoky bourbon taste; electrifying

where it yearned to go...

:

...do you, do you remember now?

AND FIRE
Yes, there were flames, 10 feet high or more;
Explosions erupted in our hearts, in our eyes,
...in our-very-souls.
:
Love was ours 'as we danced the night away'
Bells tolled & the stars s.. c.. a.. t...t... e... r... e...d
Shimmering wonder onto perspiring spent folds.

:

Now December has brought the rain
:
again & again...
:
'Golden dreams were shiny days'
The love we made has faded to a saddening refrain...

:

Tell me, do you remember...

:

Hush now...
:
No, don't answer;
I don't think I want to know..?

:

Earth became a river,
wind became a voice
& fire sent her shiver -
if ever, there was a choice...

    I recently started listening to some songs by this band. A few months ago I met the original bass player from the band Black Oak (Arkansas) and he told us stories and talked about their crazy shows with Earth, Wind & Fire, the Eagles, Rare Earth (I think is the name). Anyway, he was a pretty cool guy and I ended up searching BOA music which lead me to these other bands. Now I'll listen to "September" with a new appreciation.

    Lovely tribute. :)
