All This Firing of Fire

by Everlasting   Jul 4, 2016

I'm troubled.

there's too much chaos
in my heart

I was told,
"do not play with fire or you'll get burn"

but the world is fire:
a big ball of fiery fire flaming up each and every day more

look
In America, there's fire
people fire guns and bombs
In Asia, there's fire
people fire guns and bombs
In Europe, there's fire
people fire guns and bombs
In other parts of the world, there's fire
people also fire guns and bombs

And all of this firing of fire
is burning me to the core
I'm becoming ashes even though
I'm not playing with this fire -
I'm mean, with the world.

=----------------

On a weird joke, the firing of guns and bombs should be fired.

English can be too ambigious.

Yes, definitely, I actually wrote Africa first but I had to reconsider.

Let us hope for that one day.

I like this personal reflection on the increasing normality of violence. You lay it out well with the repetitive lines regarding the loci of the conflagration. You were probably tempted to add in Africa, but then you faced the issue of why to exclude Oceania and Australia, not to mention whether America covers both continents ("the Americas") or just the USA. I think your choice left the poem balanced.

I also like the coincidence with the 4th of July for your posting. The innocent setting off of fireworks is subliminally contrasted to the destruction of guns and bombs.

Let us hope we will find, one day, independence from mass violence.
