The Sleeping Volcano

The ancients would say, "Fire in the heart sends smoke to the head",
Oh boy is that true,
Seems like everyday there's tragedy happening in our country,
and at the heart of it, our nation is ready to erupt,

You turn to your local news to see the weather but end up seeing a video of a man being beaten,
quickly you press "Last" on your remote and end up viewing an execution,
But if you pause the channel just right, just before the officer/s delivers the first blow that will be heard around the world, you can see the anger in their faces,

No one is sure what caused the spark,
but you can see Dante's Inferno in their eyes,
They have no fear, they don't feel, they just act,
From choke holds to Billy clubs, to sixteen shots,
the honeyed-potion that has been pouring into their ears since they were young finally caused them to snap,

Breaking the bones of the innocent and taking the lives of the good,
A tint of red covers their eyes,
because when you are angry you can't see,
and now the people are angry,

But anger has not allegiance,
it doesn't care if someone was choked to death for selling cigarettes or violence ensues at a peace rally,
It can and it will consumed us all and will tear us down if we let it,
but the people have reached a boiling point,

Anger is the strongest emotion,
It can harm, kill, and make you lose loved ones,
somehow some way it has to be stopped,
before it destroys us all.
