Our Brief Forever

The test of perseverance, we passed;
the test of obedience, we conquered.
You told me you'd take a chance
and you took many chances.
You've done enough, and even more;
for that I'm grateful.

But I was shocked and couldn't believe
how briefly our forever lasted.
Forever beats like waves across my ears,
my eyes ready to let out their tears
as once again fear grew in my heart.

Memories flashed through my mind,
fantasies swept through my heart.
I remembered that we were
the delights of our friends,
and even strangers prayed for us,
while haters envied us.

With you I experienced true craving,
I heard true sobbing.
I watched you smile,
I heard you laugh.
I watched you cry,
I've seen you broken;
I've seen through you:
I saw an angel.

It hurts, but we've made the choice
to severe the cord and cut the ties.
And since you've become like a wind,
I cannot hold unto you anymore;
but you will always be remembered.
