Reflections

You know what your problem is?

When you find someone you adore,
You get attached faster than a
Fly on a windshield.

You cling on to every smile,
Every hello, and every moment
They give you attention.

And once you are under this infatuation,
You do everything you can,
Write them lyrics,
Sing them your songs,
Draw them your art that resembles
the inner workings of your heart,
To make sure that THEY are happy.

It's never been about your own
Happiness,
It's never been about your dreams,
Your desires,
Your fears and your passions.
No, the needs of the many outweighed
the needs of You.

You give way too many chances,
You allow for so many excuses,
For so many "let's reschedule"s,
For so many messages left on seen.

To be quite honest with you,
You give these chances to
Those who don't deserve them.

They take advantage of your vulnerability,
They take advantage of your openness,
Of your need to see them pleased,
To the point that they extract
All of the energy out of you,
Leaving a shell of what once was
You.

But hey, you're ok with that right?
Because even through all the
Trials and tribulations,
They're still in your life,
And that's what really matters,
Right?

Even if they send you packing,
Even if they kick you to the curb,
Even if they take your emotions and
Scatter them like unassembled Lego blocks,
You'll still be there for them.

You'll STILL give them that extra chance,
That extra excuse,
That extra rain check,
Because that's You.
That's how you are,
And that's ok.

When you love,
You love deeply.
And you collect the memories
That you share with them
And store them deep in your
Heart that beats more
than any of these toxic people
Will ever deserve.

Sadly, THAT is why it's so hard
For you to

Let
Them
Go...

So, I have to say the repetition in this drove me nuts, that is my greatest pet peeve in poetry unless it is done spotlessly - and I'm sorry to say, but you still have some practice before you get htat perfect :P

I did enjoy the mostly flawless flow though. Which is actually kind of incredible, because it is difficult to keep a person engaged and in steady rhythm with a piece as lengthy as this. Also, your ending was pretty decent. It really left an impact and left me thinking.

Not to be cruel, but I do not believe this piece was worthy of a nomination because it is not one of your best works. It has too little voice and personality from you and it has too many words in all caps to really seem profound or powerful enough for the weekly newsletter.
