Songs From A Gilded Cage

by Nobody   Mar 10, 2017

Why do men see something beautiful
and think they can place it in a cage?

The song bird's wings were meant to fly
stretched across the blue horizon.

The songs they sing are a beautiful tune
which trees bend and rivers race to hear

Their feathers grace the forest floors
a token to for the earth to remember

As it soars towards the open sky
with new places to see, new homes to build

There is no mountain too large
no tree too high to trap the song bird inside

Understanding the need to be free
That's why the Earth gave birds their wings

Yet man sees something to be obtained
captured and sold to the highest bidders

But the cost too steep to bear
the price of the song bird's soul

To be beautiful and free is a dangerous thing.

There's an awful lot of wisdom in this piece.
It is always baffles me that - individually - we seem aware of our own shortcomings, but collectively, we are hopeless and seem entirely unable to fix them.

    Take care,

    Ben
