Sandman

by Lyical Madness   Apr 30, 2017

Sandman, you neglect me
Leaving me awake & unsure
To pass the waking hours
With a mind I can't ignore

Sandman, you forget me
I am left awake & alone
As I mindlessly watch TV
Of others happy at home

Sandman, you are an arseh*le
As you leave me here distressed
Time passes more slowly
All I want is some rest

Sandman, I truly hope
You never feel this way
Watching sun's set & rise
Losing night into day

Sandman, I want to befriend you
As we know each other in such familiar ways
You steal the time from me
You owe me both nights & days

Sandman, who are you
That takes so much from me
That steals my slumber & peace
That just won't let me be

Sandman, I am tired
Of your controlling ways
I want nights to be nights
& days just to be days

Sandman, I am sorrowful
For your lack of care
Because if you knew the beauty of the world
You'd allow me to be there

There's nothing worse than not being able to sleep. We need that sleep to be able to function in the world, to be able to shut off our brains. After so many days of not getting that we start running on a whole different level. You really did a wonderful job describing this and I really liked this conversation you had with him. Well done-

Lm, I gotta admit I'm not usually a fan of poetry with repetition, I don't know why, sometimes it feels over dramatic to me and it looses it's integrity (my opinion only) but I liked the repetition here, it didn't feel forced or contrived, great emotional and atmospheric write.

So sad and a little dark.
    It reminds me of insomnia.
