Released (collaboration with chandelier)

by Xandra_Writes   Jan 6, 2018

I stared at my reflection in the mirror
Faking a smile, as always
Wearing the mask of joviality
Whispering to myself, "I'm happy"

But am I?

They treat me like a puppet
They think they're the puppeteers

But are they?

All along, I couldn't see
That I was the puppeteer
And the puppet itself
Trying to dance to their tunes
Following step by step
Blinded by the need for acceptance
In their web of kalopsia

But all along, I couldn't see
That their acts were unjust
And words untrue
Trying to shatter my self-worth
Moulding me into someone I'm not

But I'm not happy
Not happy being a phony

Day by day, the dirt grows
And it's consuming me
My mask growing heavy
I can't wear it anymore

I've had enough

Now I don't care
I'm gonna break the strings
Tied to me
I'm gonna tear the mask off
'Cause that isn't me
I won't be a puppet anymore

I've had enough

Enough of their manipulations
Enough of their stereotypes

I've had enough

Now here I am,
Staring back into my soul
Breathing the air of freedom
Growing the wings I thought
I'd never have

And I will fly high
And fly forever.

    Thankyou Ben, and Brenda :)

Yeah...that is what we realised, being true to ourselves is what matters most!

Thanks for reading, i appreciate it.

A very well done collaboration you two did. Ben is absolutely right, until we are totally honest with ourselves we can never be open or honest with another. We have to be true to ourselves and follow our path. From there you can share yourself and truly be happy.

Until we shed the masks we wear completely, we can never be ourselves and thus, never do ourselves any kind of justice.

    All the best,

    Ben
