MEMORY OF MOM

by Robert Daniel Long   Jan 21, 2018

AS I SIT HERE IN THE SHADOWS
I WATCH THE SUN EVER SO SLOWLY.......SLIP AWAY
CLOSING THIS DAY
ONE THAT WE SHARED IN THE MEMORY OF YOU

QUIETLY I LISTEN
AND I CAN STILL HEAR THOSE MELODIES
THAT YOU USED TO LOVE SO DEAR

I MISS TALKING TO YOU
YOU WERE MY BEST FRIEND...., BUT I DIDN'T TELL YOU THAT
IT'S BEEN SUCH A LONG TIME
SINCE YOU LEFT US
IT SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY THAT WE SPOKE
I PICKED UP THE PHONE........., AND REALIZED THAT YOU'RE NOT HERE

YOU KNOW
TIME SEEMS SO INSIGNIFICANT
THERE'S NOT ENOUGH TO GO AROUND
IT'S LIKE WE DON'T PUT IN THE EFFORT
JUST TO BE WITH ONE ANOTHER
UNTIL IT'S TO LATE

WORDS CAN NO LONGER COMFORT
A HEART YEARNS
BUT DOESN'T FIND SOLICE
FORGIVE ME FOR NOT SPEAKING TO YOU SOONER
I WAS LOST IN THE MOMENT
ONE THAT SEEMED.........., TO HAVE NO END

DO YOU REMEMBER
THE COFFEE AND THOSE CHATS ON THE PORCH
WE SAT THERE TALKING
UNTIL THE WEE HOURS OF MORNING
I MISS YOU.........., YOU'LL NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH

OUR TIME WAS CUT SHORT
THERE WAS SO MUCH....., THAT I STILL WANTED TO SAY
NOW I DON'T HAVE THE CHANCE
HOPEFULLY WE'LL SEE EACH OTHER
AS TIME MOVES FORWARD
BRINGING LIFE TO A CLOSE

SO......, I'LL SIT HERE
REMEMBERING ALL THOSE MEMORIES
WHILE QUIETLY LISTENING TO THOSE MELODIES
THAT YOU USED TO LOVE SO DEAR
WHERE WE SAT UNTIL THE WEE HOURS OF MORNING
CHATTING ON THE PORCH OVER COFFEE
SO IN CLOSING MOM

I HOPE THAT YOU'RE WELL
REMEMBER I MISS YOU.............YOUR SON
