Blossom

by Nick   Mar 26, 2018

I shall not take a drop for granted
Of spring and summer rain.
Fertile trickling; the dirt exacted
Seep unto my veins.

Sweet hydration upon my soul
Marry minerals and life therein.
Remove the bane of fauna’s toll
Look to flora’s withered skin.

Seep unto my veins
Humble, aqueous divine.
Wash away disdain;
Birth me from decline.

I know not where the sun has fled,
Nor when it shall appear again.
I do not fear the wintry dread,
Blocking light from the ground I wed.

So seep unto my veins-
Dearest,
Sweet friend.

This salve runs deep
From my roots,
So steep-
I will bloom again.

*This poem is inspired by the Theodore Roethke quote: “Deep in their roots, all flowers keep their light.”

I love the hope in this, and how you have also phrased "birth me", "remove" and "wash away", like a subtle command that gives this flower determination. The repetition of "seep unto my veins" works quite well. It's endearing and gives this flower such vitality, that it will never take a raindrop for granted. That chance to bloom, that truly glorious moment, it will come again.

Lively yet soothing piece to read.

Reading this comment gave me nothing but smiles. I love coming across artist/critique comment that matches up with what I'm thinking in my head when I write a piece, and yet how many beautifully different ways people can word what they experienced from the poem. For example determination is definitely a strong theme I would attach to this poem (which made me geek out completely, because it made me think of Undertale and that wasn't what I was thinking about AT ALL when I wrote this.)

With this piece I really wanted to promote to the reader that "Feel good" sense and this idea of, "Whatever it is that you are trying to overcome, it does not matter how dark the day gets. Hold onto your light and one day you bloom again. There is a time and place for you to be beautiful and it will happen."

Once again, thank you for your kind words :)
