Then I'll let them feel

by Dancing Rivers   Dec 25, 2018

If there was a way for me
to release myself
from my own chains

Chains I have created
to better fit their realm
of understanding

If there was a way for me
to tear myself asunder
for them to see me

As I truly am
the woman who tries
to always do what's right

Do they think
I would decline that chance?

I've wrapped myself in roses
for them to better see me,
maybe appreciate my thorns

And yet..
It is never

Enough!

I've had enough
of roses and dreams,
tired old tales.

Let me find my resting place-
Amidst my shattered dreams-
let me rest,

For just a moment
in my void of longing.

I wish they could step inside me
and see the world as I do
perhaps then they'd realize

I am doing what I can
to make dreams materialize
from empty promises.

let me be for just a moment
then I'll let them feel

The sorrows
that are taunting me

Perhaps then I'll be enough...

    Judge's Comment:

I really enjoyed this piece by Dancing Rivers. I related and empathized with many of the sentiments throughout, especially when she spoke about trying “to make dreams materialize from empty promises.” We all try to make something from nothing and dealing with the fallout of failure can be debilitating.

Powerful but poignant. A wish to be understood, to be validated. Keep being you, only those worth your time will see your worth. :) a great poem
