Taking what I deserve

by Anne Moore   Apr 8, 2019

A blow to the back for the spot I left on a bowl-
It's what I deserve
A twist of the fingers for not squaring a shirt sleeve-
It's what I deserve
A pop in the mouth for speaking out of turn-
It's what I deserve
Isn’t it?

But now I do not fight back
Cause I’ve learned what I’ll lose
A father’s love
A mother's right
A child's innocence

A chunk of hair ripped out for some pigtails I wore-
It's what I deserve
A pinch in the side for a shirt that didn’t fit right-
It's what I deserve
A spat in the face for who knows what-
It's what I deserve
Isn’t it?

But now I won’t fight back
Cause I’ve learned what I’ll lose
A father’s love
A mother's right
A child's innocence
Maybe something else
So now I’m taking what I deserve

It is unfortunate that this is written from your heart, your life. No childs life should be about abuse and feeling you deserve nothing more. You are important and you mean more than your mind says you do. Hugs-
