Drink Driving Affects The Ones You Love Too

Driver A

I know I can do this I didn't drink that much
My head might be spinning but I still feel in touch
I only have to drive down a few streets
I'll go the quiet way and try to be discreet

This is going well not as hard as I thought
I'm going fairly slow less chance of getting caught
Though I know these roads more confidence I need
I take another swig as I start to pick up speed

I turn the stereo high playing my favourite song
Even on this route it shouldn't take that long
A car just ahead driving slow for goodness sake
I slam down my foot as I plan to overtake

Before I even know the car’s in front of me
Turning for the street are you blind can't you see?
I stumble for the brakes but slow to react
Then the deafening crunch as both our cars impact

Driver B

I know I can do this driving out at night
I only got my license but I'm sure I'll be alright
My boyfriends out again at some party in the town
I try to find the house while I drive all around

I wish you'd agreed to let me pick you up
But it made you mad as you got all wound up
I know that you drink and then drive in this state
And make me worry sick at home while I wait

I think I found the street as I quickly turn
But suddenly bright lights in my eyes start to burn
My mind just goes blank as I grip the steering wheel
Then there's only silence as I lie in twisted steel

I hear a voice approach and its shouting abuse
As I try to move but I know that it’s no use
It sounds so familiar then all I feel is shame
The last words I hear are you calling out my name

A sad tale that unfortunately depicts something that still happens despite all the advertising and social media reports. So many live are destroyed by drink drivers but still you get these idiots crippling, maiming and killing others just because they get drunk and stupid especially when they reoffend and drive when banned.

Wouldn't it be great if drink drivers who injure others were judged for attempted or actual murder (depending on the levels of harm) and actually sent to a proper prison for a full term for their crimes in nothing but a cell with bars and bread and water. Milly x

Thanks for your comment and I couldn't agree more Milly. In my eyes these idiots are committing murder with a bottle in one hand and the steering wheel in the other.
