Counting Stars

by redacted_words   Aug 2, 2019

The ocean crawls up to the sand beneath my feet
As a small crab runs by, scampering towards the ocean to meet
An unbeknownst world filled with unforgiving hearts
And from it's comfort; into the blue it departs.

The stars, they shine so dim in the night sky
As if the cosmos is teasing us with it's smile so wry
There's so much we see and yet so much unknown
As we tread this journey with time so alone.

Born alone to die alone, if this be our destiny
In this time; so be the testimony
Faced with hunger and world peace and issues so substantial
Just a heart filled with insecurities and loneliness feels so unreal.

A juvenile mind with questions so puerile
Those of love, hate and all other things so vile
"She loves me; she loves me not"
And a billion other futile doubts it sought.

And here lie a billion dreams and a billion more pains
Like on a beach lie waste all of the sand grains
But me? I'm just another guy sitting on the seashore
Counting stars; watching the sand pour.
