Forget

by Kate   Dec 8, 2019

I try not to think about you anymore
But it’s hard to forget how your smile touched your eyes
And the soft brown freckles that cover your skin

I try to forget how it felt when we touched in the back seat of the car
And the sound of your breathless laugh on that drunken night
It was music to my ears

I try to forget the memories of you by my side when I started a new chapter
And the feeling of your arms wrapped around me that one time
How I could stay there for days

I try to forget that the thought of you made my heart swell
And how the thought of your kiss put my hands between my legs
I dreamed of you

But you were never mine

Now I try to forget the crushing feeling that plagues me when I hear your name
And how I hate myself for not telling you how I truly felt
I loved you

And now I’ll try to forget how you broke the promise of forever
And how quickly my importance to you seemed to fade
It never existed in the first place

Regret is a curse that plagues us all and hindsight always makes fools of us. Knowing that, however, doesn't seem to help, does it?
    Take care
