A Mothers Grievance

by BEJohnson   Feb 3, 2020

She sits by her daughters grave today
Remembering all the times in their past.
A Christmas filled with memories of joy
Halloweens covered by painted masks.

She remembers the joy she once had
When her baby was born sixteen years ago.
But it has all been washed away with hurt
The time now seems to pass so slow.

One year ago her daughter passed away
Because a drunk driver took her life.
One that was assured to be so jubilant
Everything then seemed to be so right.

She remembers her daughters smile
When she fought for six straight hours.
But the end result crushed her heart
As she now slowly places the flowers.

A single tear escapes this moms eyes
As her hand clutches her white shirt.
For this is just a mothers grievance
One that has so much worth.

Ran down my reckless small choices
For those who choose to drink and drive.
This mother now raises awareness for others
As the memory of her daughter still thrives.
