On Vacation

by Glenn G   Mar 21, 2020

I never will forget
One day I was in Vietnam
I was in uniform
I thought I would take in the sites
So I was walking along one of the streets
Looking at some historical buildings
Reading some monuments
Despite the despair the country had been through
The people were very polite and cordial
Suddenly the person next to me started flailing their arms like a helicopter
Screaming so loud you couldn't hear the equipment driving down the road
A scowl look that would scare anyone

After the person left, another American came to me and said
Is that what you guys call an enemy combatant
I said, no that was my wife
We're on vacation
I wanted to turn right and she wanted to turn left
