An Open Book

by Walter   Apr 27, 2020

A quiet evening
With nothing planned
You're sitting close
Within reach of hand

But deep in thought
As you read your book
You have me captivated
And drawn to look

I watch you react
As you turn the page
From a subtle smile
To a look of rage

I see the cover
And should have guessed
A romantic novel
Has you suppressed

But then your eyes pause
As you re-read
The same page over
I am intrigued

And you're no longer
In a rush
To start the next page
And slightly blush

Then it happens
That our eyes meet
Suddenly you're acting
So discreet

You can't help yourself
As you turn red
For giving me a glimpse of
What's in your head

I imagine your story
Must be intense
It's left you in a way
With no defence

Perhaps your book
Can't be outdone
But reading your reactions
Is just as fun
