Rose Petals Dyed Black

by BEJohnson   Jun 23, 2020

He gave her this rose
the petals dyed black.
Told her to always smile
and don't ever look back.

He kissed away her tears
and said his final goodbyes.
She never knew
but soon he would die.

She let go of his hands
the ones that were so cold.
The ones with the memories
the truth they always told.

He walked home alone
with her picture in his hand.
He knew what he was about to do
his emptiness took its stand.

Still his life passed by
his suicide so hollow.
A path of happiness he took
His tears were shallow.

She found him there
On the cold floor alone.
The black eye liner fading
The dry tears were shown.

Blood was smeared on his hand
her picture gripped tight.
She looked up to the heavens
This life alone she couldn’t fight.

Days later she stood there
Trembling beside his grave.
Looking up to the sky
the tears she couldn't save.

She walked home alone
With his picture in her grasp.
Her pain was unbearable
The tears continued to last.

She ached for days and days
Finally she gave up all hope inside.
As she wrote her final goodbye
That signaled her dreaded suicide.

She laid there alone
With his picture close to her heart.
For she was already shattered
her life ripped apart.

The rose still lays there
it's stem and leaves still in tact.
Between theirs graves it lays
its petals dyed black.
