Like a prayer, almost
two hands clasped
together
and I stumbled and gasped
my way through -
I put my fingers to my lips
to steady the flow.

I tried to see if I was
lost, but my eyes
fastened themselves shut
against my anxious brain
attempting to
shatter.

I felt a pulse
and suddenly
I recognized that your heart
beat with mine,
together.

And then - I was still.
