Wake The Dead

by Cantchangeme   Oct 20, 2020

Ghost man go slow
Neck tie to necro
Foresight to uphold the forthright
Little kiddies killed over fortnite
Homework for the homeless
Plucked, dressed and senseless
Heads causing me distress
I’m losing it hold the press

You raising up your babies
Like mad dogs with rabies
Wondering why they show you no respect
Wearing your MAGA hat Into that KKK sect
No god no heart and no soul
Brain ain’t that of an eggroll
That’s why I commit hate to memory
Ignorance is bliss and anger is an energy

I order a vegan pizza, deep pan
So I can kill and eat the delivery man
A serial killer with lip filler
Butterfly turning into a caterpillar
Papa Legba call him the boss
Gris-Gris eyes in the crisscross
Tired man he go to bed
Hateful enough to wake the dead

    - Yes, exactly this!

I quite liked this poem. The cynicism, yet also wisdom and confrontation of your words. There were some unique lines and odd images, and it felt completely unfiltered, which I loved. It felt like your brain having so many thoughts and not being able to mitigate or compartmentalize, they just have to spill out. These observations have to be shared. And a lot of it is the stark reality of the world. Of hopelessness, people not understanding hate yet participating in it, people not thinking for themselves. The line about the vegan pizza, yet killing the delivery man made me think of a song by the band Badflower called "Murder Games", and overall, that while you are trying to consume what won't kill or harm sentient beings, humans are still disregarding any aspect of sanctity in life, and don't care who or what they hurt. So it felt like almost a shrug, like, why not. Any attempts at bettering the world is met with people who will mock and abuse their authority even more.

A very interesting piece that, while I may not have understood each line, had creativity and a drive to it. And a commentary on the horrors present in our society.
