Tattered

Just tell me
who you want me to be
just say -
I'll swallow the words
you want to hear
and watch their taint
creep over my skin.
It would be easier then,
wouldn't it?
If I was all black and white
suited to you
like a tailored jacket.

I'm tired
of playing hangman
while you
swing the rope.

I'm tired
of fumbling over
my own
garish guesses.

Just tell me
who I should be
and I'll hang up the rest
like worn, tired dresses
that you never saw
anyway.
