I Buy Myself a Rose

by Glenn G   Nov 27, 2020

A Rose is but Rose
It's fragrance although fresh
Like that of Spring's first rain
Will soon fade
Leaving it's beauty
From where it came
Earth to Earth, Ashes to Ashes: (Bible)

The fragrance of love is so sweet
A powerful and lasting fragrance
You carry the smell to work
Smell it over the phone
Smell it in a picture and dream of it at night

The fragrance of love will not leave you
When life takes your love away
It will be on their pillow
On the clothes they wore
In the car, the house
In your children and grandchildren
In the love letters you've saved
The bed where you made love
Your lips they once kissed
And in the memories you made together

I wish I could smell that fragrance
Me, I have to buy myself a Rose

A well thought out poem that took me on a pleasant journey, what I presumed was your life, only to discover, the sad truth.

    Nice work.
