M is for Monophobia

by nouriguess   Dec 3, 2020

As a child,
I sang the ABCD song
with the others,
dressed in blue and white uniforms.
The sky was sunny
on most days back then.

I knocked on random doors
and ran
with the others
after school. It was thrilling
to watch someone's confusion,
as they open the door
unaware of
my existence.

The sky is grey and
my voice is no longer
a happy melody.

I knock on doors now.
I don't run away. I wait
for an answer,
for someone to ask
"who are you?"

Who am I?

You don't know how
thrilling it feels
now, to
watch someone

open their door
for me, to know someone

is aware
of my existence.
