Jackie's Dress and the American Flag

by Maple Tree   Feb 10, 2021

Reading books about George
along with being the first,
I've long imagined days of old
and how triumphant our leader felt.

I could hear tears falling from mother-
as she recalled the day Kennedy got shot,
and she knew he would be the one to lead us
but all that was left was blood stains upon;

Jackie's dress.

Jimmy enjoyed peanuts and his love for humanity
could be felt among-st the stars,
his smile lit up a room, as a child
I felt that from him.

I voted for Bill the day I came home
from having my second child,
standing in line with a pillow
to my stomach and a need to vote.

Loving this country the way I do
leaves me breathless, but never
embarrassed, the way I felt when Donald
arrived.

I like the determination gaze I see in Abe's eyes-

it lingers with me
for I'm just a Yankee doodle dandy Andy..
(nick name from my father)
and Ill always rest my hand over my heart.
