Before

by Ben Pickard   Apr 24, 2021

she slept beneath where the wisteria grew,
and woke with the blackbird's chorus
-
she made love to the breeze,
filling her lungs with the cool eroticism
of a north wind that everybody else sheltered from
-
condensing on the bark of a tree, she would

drip,

drip,

down between the crevices
and alight on the ground that
gasped for her sultry saturation

oh! for the blossom that blew
and stationed itself like Nature's
delicate sentry at your feet!

for the storms that surged
and seeped into your body,
and the lightening that lit
your very darkest abodes!

treacherous, now, are the wind's overtures

treasonous is the air that swirls seductively
around my face on a searing summer's day

and villainous are the daisies that dance
with not a mention of your delicate grace
from that time before -

"that time before"

-

that is all the time I have now

I felt the sensuous overtones your words. I also felt the regret of loss and what was...well done Sir.

HI Ben, there is something about this that reeks regret, maybe it's just me I'm not too sure... But, I think as we grow older we seem to ponder more and more about the decisions we made in our youth and whether or not they were the right ones but what we have to realise is that not to make a decision would be the mistake - maybe? I'm probably talking utter nonsense but I'd like to think someone around these parts understands me, atleast.
That being said, as ever, a fantastic piece full of wonderful imagery.
    Take care

I wish I could nominate this, is all that I can think of to say. Poetic, am I not?

Thank you, Keira, but don't worry at all about that. I think the site prevents nominations from now until Monday anyway.
