Sight Free-write (workshop poem)

by M. Rene'   May 24, 2021

There's something to be said for breaking dawn
at 3 pm because illusion is masterful.

Dawn cracks through imaginary walls
bringing mid-day offerings of cherry blossoms
coated in pale magenta promises of love -
disguised as smiles and slight blushing.

This world we've created from creamy feathers
and blissful rays of an ideal sunshine
eminate springtime and gardens for meandering.

Darling, I wish holding cotton candy skies
or tasting cloud drifting afternoons were possible.

Love is more, so much more, than simple sight
and yet, I'd give every other sense to stay here.

My Button Up workshop was postponed this week. So instead I found a NotaCult media workshop on YouTube hosted by another of my favorite authors, Rhiannon McGavin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtB6IqqVEtY (if anyone else wants to watch and learn at their own time) and this was the first piece I wrote while experiencing this workshop instead. We explored all the senses, memories and even trauma-informed poetry techniques. It was really amazing. Maybe I'll post the other four pieces here, I haven't really decided.
