My Dear Sister

by Julia L   Jul 24, 2021

You, Debbie set aside your life
You took on a responsibility
Because no one else would
You rearranged your life to
Fit mom and dad in.
You sacrificed your solitude
Because your a strong
Independent woman. You
Gave mom and dad a voice
When some of the family
Members wanted to take control of.
You gave them a home.
You let dad have his own space
Without taking who he was away.
You have shown to mom and dad
Honesty is in this family, financially
That's something to be proud of.
You have compassion that most
Of our siblings aren't capable of.
You had a special place in dad's
Heart, he used to tell me, Debbie
Is going to kick your butt. His jokes
We're always out of good fun.
You may not have always been there, through the years.
You were there for dad.
When he needed you.
You are still there for mom. I am
Lucky. You are my sister.
Mom is lucky, your wonderful
Caregiver. You give updates to our family on how mom is doing
When a visit from everyone
Every now and then
Would be so much easier.
I wrote this poem to tell you
You are appreciated
