The Dividing Wall

by Wayne Gates   Nov 17, 2021

You lay on your side of the bed and I lay on mine
an invisible wall lies between us that is hard to define

I miss your smile and the way I made you laugh
I still try to be funny but actually, I'm sending a gaff

What has happened to us over the last few years
perhaps a hardening of spirit brought on by fears

I still love you but no longer attempt to show it
I am afraid it's unrequited so I continue to stow it

I wish I knew how to tear down this dividing wall
To lie together again and hopefully forestall

This deteriorating relationship wrought with pain
to feel close once more and happy again
