Love Towers Over

by Walter   May 8, 2022

There's a special place we go
And it's like no where else compares
Where we met many years ago
While climbing up those stairs

A lookout tower by the beach
Which stands so very tall
In sync we'd climb up the steps
Neither of us would stall

Somehow it became a race
To make it to the top
Where each of us so determined
That we wouldn't stop

Then both of us out of breath
Gasping for some air
And laughing at our foolish game
As if it was a dare

Of course we each declared a draw
That neither of us won
As no-one would admit defeat
That we had been outdone

But no longer in a rush
As time would have us stall
And frozen in this magic place
Where we both had it all

Who knew where out paths would flow
Our prints left on the beach
When we would turn to see the tower
Becoming out of reach

But walking on solid ground
We knew we had to start
And one day love would build this tower
Made with both our hearts

Years later when we'd return
Our tower still standing tall
But when comparing to our love
It almost felt so small

And all those steps won't wear us out
Like the first time we'd attend
As true love builds the highest tower
And from here we descend
