Impressions

I know they're not our footprints
Embedded in the sand
The ones we left years ago
When we would walk this land

I think it was my favourite night
That I would share with you
The memories that we'd create
Still now come into view

I see where the prints would pause
And scatter on the shore
I watch them line face to face
Like we did once before

Standing on the same ground
It's like I see you there
I breathe and feel you in the wind
Your warmth sensed in the air

One can lose all sense of time
When living in the past
One will yearn what has been lost
Because it didn't last

But destined the same tide will set
My feet will feel it's cold
And all our prints are washed away
The stories that they told

Looking back I see my prints
Are only left behind
But tears don't seem to wash away
The ones left in my mind
