Moth/Icarus

by Obscure   Mar 3, 2023

Climb from your dark cave
Where cramped corners force
Your feathered wings closed
And you lie shaking,
Blanketed,
While cold wind wails
From an unknown source

Follow that lonely string of golden thread
that pulls you up and up, until the sky calls
Promising warmth for your tattered wings
Showering sunlight into night-filled eyes

But now you fall,
Empty of strength
Under light's deep spell
Dizzy, you fall from the sky
Into deep waves
Thrashing with darkness
Breathe in the sea
And the glow fades,
Never to light again
