Passing Strangers - Sonnet

by Walter   Apr 9, 2023

Why does love always seem to end cruel
And yet when it starts, it is so divine
It wants to make me out to be the fool
Whenever I think that it could be mine

I know I swore that I wouldn't try again
Until its powers will cast such a spell
And then I'd ride on a runaway train
With this feeling that I now know too well

Our destination is a lonely street
Where we both get off and walk our own way
Once passing strangers when we would first meet
To this moment where we're both walking stray

And if I should ever see you walk past
You're just a reminder... love does not last
